About

Am I a famous writer yet?

If you google “IMG_2224how to make money writing comedy” you will discover that basically, you can’t! You may also notice that other people are searching for “how to make money online,” and “how to make money fast.” It looks like most people want a job where they can sit around at home and make easy money, fast. Sounds awesome! Of course, there’s no job that is lucrative, easy, and fun. If there were, wouldn’t everyone be doing it?

I have always been way too pragmatic to seriously pursue humor writing. But luckily for me, I already have a career where I work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, and after working at it for over a year, I still have not received a paycheck. Maybe the checks are getting lost in the mail. I should call Payroll about that.

Staying home to work with your children is a noble pursuit. But it doesn’t have nearly as much me-standing-around-the-coffee-machine-at-work-and-making-people-laugh as I had hoped. Also, my one-year-old doesn’t find my parodies of “The Wheels on the Bus” nearly as funny as I do.

So, here I go, reading, writing, editing, editing, editing, and attempting to make you laugh – coffee machine optional, but highly recommended.

How to Write Funny by Scott Dikkers concludes with, “Keep writing, and practice these techniques until you’re Tina Fey.” Well that sounds just easy and fun enough to work.
